Nogales
San Isidro, Lima (2019-2022)

Orrantia -established in 1924- is one of the first ‘garden city’ developments in San Isidro. Originally a low density neighborhood of detached houses with gardens and tree-lined streets, it has been transformed -in the last two decades- into a denser neighborhood of heterogeneous multi-family buildings, losing part of its characteristic flavor.
We were commissioned there to design a building with 10 apartments on a corner lot. How to make something new but preserving the neighborhood’s DNA? How to be able to ‘make city’ from a private project?
The answers arose from studying the history of the neighborhood in depth. Innovation here is based on the good architectural decisions that were made in the previous century, in order to project them into the next.
